Calder's most famous City Hall sculpture is the 37ft.-27 ton bronze
statue of William Penn. The largest statue to adorn any building in
the world, it wascast at Tacony Iron and Metal Worksin 14
sections. Beginning asa 9 ft. clay model, it is the result of 20 years
of work by the sculptor. To his chagrin, it was mounted on the
tower facing northeast, where Penn negotiated a treaty with the
Indians instead of South where it would be constantly lit by the sun.
