Carbon Wire Annealing Because of its ability to heat rapidly, a salt bath is especially valuable for annealing such products as steel, brass, copper, silver and gold wire, strips and stampings. The entire annealing cycle, whether designed to release cold work stresses, avoid cracking or make for easier machineability, is accomplished in a matter of minutes in salt.

Quenching produces a highly strained condition that must be relieved promptly by a tempering or drawing operation. Exact temperatures of salt baths with a low melting point assures rapid , uniform heating that can make or ruin a carbon steel tool.
